Primary research, clinical, or educational interest(s): I love to teach. Selfishly, it helps me learn more.
What do you look forward to most about the ASHNR Annual Meeting? All the amazing lectures. I find them all so incredibly helpful. I also just really enjoy getting to know other members from all over. I have found ASHNR to be a really colorful and fun group!
Do you have a particular ASHNR member or mentor that you admire (and why)? I have had the distinct luck to have trained under and now work with Dr. C. Douglas Phillips. He introduced me to the wide world of head & neck imaging. He lectures with an ease that only comes with incredible comfort with such a difficult topic. Over the years, he has provided me many opportunities to peruse the field further and been encouraging and incredibly helpful all along the way. Plus, he puts up with my quirky personality and sarcastic sense of humor – always a plus!
What is your favorite (anatomic) part of the head & neck? The other day my colleague called me to show me a case saying, “You like the mandible. Right?” At first it made me laugh, but it is true. I do like the jaws. I have always enjoyed musculoskeletal imaging but not as much as neuro (so don’t judge me). Perhaps a strange thing to enjoy but I love the jaws (dentition and TMJ included). I love all the facial bones.
What was your childhood dream job? I wanted to be an architect. To design and help construct homes seemed so cool. The math part….not so much. It is not a hard stretch to figure out why I like the facial bones and their bony buttresses.
What is one thing people might be surprised to know about you? Despite my head and neck affinity, I have anosmia. My husband is always jokingly pushing me to “cure nose blindness.” Perhaps all the great minds at the ASHNR can help me out in that endeavor.
