ASHNR Celebrates Two Pioneering Leaders in Head and Neck Radiology

The ASHNR Gold Medal is our Society’s highest honor, recognizing outstanding lifetime contributions to head and neck radiology through research, education, mentorship, clinical excellence, and dedicated service to our professional community.

The 2025 recipient was Rebecca Cornelius, MD, FACR, retired Professor of Radiology and Otolaryngology–Head & Neck Surgery at the University of Cincinnati College of Medicine and past ASHNR President (2017–2018). Dr. Cornelius has made enduring contributions to head and neck imaging through her scholarship, educational leadership, and commitment to trainee mentorship. Over the course of her career, she has guided numerous neuroradiology fellows and radiology residents and has provided impactful service to ASHNR, as well as to ASNR, the ACR, and the ABR. Her leadership and dedication have helped shape both our Society and the broader field of Head and Neck radiology.

Also, at the 2025 ASHNR Annual meeting, Jan Casselman, MD, PhD, received the inaugural ASHNR International Luminary Award, created to honor a distinguished head and neck radiologist from outside the United States whose global contributions have significantly impacted and advanced our specialty.

Dr. Casselman, a renowned radiologist from Belgium, has had a distinguished career in neuroradiology and head and neck imaging. His work has significantly advanced understanding of the temporal bone, skull base, cranial nerves, advanced MR techniques, and Cone Beam CT. An internationally respected educator and lecturer, he has also served in prominent editorial roles for Neuroradiology and Radiology. In recognition of his lifetime achievements, he previously received the European Society of Head and Neck Radiology Gold Medal.

Together, these awards celebrate two outstanding individuals whose scholarship, leadership, and mentorship have had lasting impact on our field and on the ASHNR community worldwide.
