New Imaging Guideline from the AOSNHNR-ASHNR-ESHNR Joint Task Force

We are pleased to share the release of a new collaborative guideline from the Asian-Oceanian Society of Neuroradiology and Head and Neck Radiology (AOSNHNR), the American Society of Head and Neck Radiology (ASHNR), and the European Society of Head and Neck Radiology (ESHNR).

This joint initiative introduces a comprehensive framework for the assessment and reporting of Imaging-derived Extranodal Extension (iENE) in patients with head and neck cancer. Developed by a multidisciplinary task force of expert radiologists, this guide addresses the urgent need for consistent, evidence-informed radiological evaluation of extranodal spread using cross-sectional imaging.

The goal of this program is to support standardized interpretation, reporting, and clinical communication regarding iENE, with the overarching aim of improving diagnostic accuracy, staging precision, and patient outcomes in oncologic head and neck care.

We encourage radiologists, trainees, and multidisciplinary tumor boards to incorporate this consensus-based framework into clinical practice and educational curricula.
